The thirty-fifth edition of Hart’s Rules was published in July 1950 by Geoffrey Cumberledge in London and printed in Oxford by Charles Batey, (Printer 1946–58); it was the twenty-first for publication. This edition measured 140 × 97 mm (5 1/2 × 3 3/4 inches), with black cloth covers and silver stamping on spine and front cover.

A total of 143 pages in length, this was the first edition to be printed in hardback, which afforded a harder-wearing format for what was often a well-thumbed book. In addition to Hart’s 1914 preface and Frederick Hall’s 1925 preface, Charles Batey provided another (see below).

In this Twenty-fifth Edition further corrections and additions have been made. Once again acknowledgement is made to the various correspondents and contributors whose suggestions and notes the success of this little book is in some measure due.
