This is the first in the ‘Oxford Blue’ hardcover version—17½ × 10 cm (7 × 4 inches)—that was to carry through to the first edition of ODWE. The spine has AUTHORS’ AND PRINTERS’ DICTIONARY set in portrait, a new word on each line, with COLLINS beneath. The printer’s mark at the bottom is a form of the Oxford shield drawn by Kruger Gray in 1927, version 113 (p. 16) in Charles Batey’s Representations of the Arms of the Univesity of Oxford in use at the University Press and Elsewhere (Clarendon Press, 1956). The front and back covers are blank. The full title is the same as for the sixth edition, the only difference being the loss of the Copenhagen branch from the publisher’s imprint:
